In my own opinion, LLW is the best Indonesian fushion jazz trio founded by Indra Lesmana (piano and synth), Barry Likumahuwa (electric bass), and Sandy Winarta (drums). There is Barry with his funk bassline meet Sandy’s rich rhythmic which is taken from a lot of modern music genres, and then be leaded by Indra Lesmana’s rock-techno-jazz melody and chord. You will hear pieces from Return for Forever, Weather Report, and Incognito in their first album, Love Live Wisdom.

Good morning :)

Right now I’m hearing Art Tatum’s solo collections and then I’m just thinking about Bubi Chen who was titled as Art Tatum from Asia by Willis Conover from Down Beat Magazine.

In this track which is defined as “Cradle of Love”, Bubi Chen was playing with the other legendary musician like Jack Lesmana (guitar), Ben Mustapha (drums), and Jopie Chen (bass). Sure, you will hear so much Indonesian music in this track.

Nasonang is a word in Bataknese means “So happy”. This is a contemporary-ethnic-song composed by Victor Hutabarat.

At the first time, Victor set so much minor chord and make this song become so sad. Then, Bill Saragih rearrange the jazz version of this song and make it so much energetic in his album, Sings ‘n Plays.

Blues for DD is a tribute song for Didi Tjia, a former jazz pianist from Indonesia. In 1962, Together with Bill Saragih and Jack Lesmana, Didi Tjia made a dixieland-band called Jazz Riders.

As long time musician and Didi Tjia’s bandmate, Benny Likumahuwa composed this song. It is included in his newest solo album, Like Father Like Son, featuring his son, Barry Likumahuwa.

Ever heard any 8 bit music, before? It’s a kind of digital music which is created by using chip-tune, a set of electronic music synthesizer for vintage PC.
8 bit music was usually used for game soundtrack between the 1970s and 1990s. Now, 8 bit music still has its own fans and still popular to be used by bedroom music producer.

Surasshu is one of 8 bit sound designer in this era. Accompanied by Aivi Tran with her piano-playing, they create such a really fresh modern-contemporary-music. Their collaboration work in The Black Box album has gotten so much success so far, sitting in 4th position in Bandcamp front page.

Java Jazz change their formation in 1998. There was Donny Suhendra on guitar, Gilang Ramadhan on drums, and A.S. Mates on bass, replacing Dewa Budjana, Cendi Luntungan, and Jeffrey Tahalele to perform with Indra Lesmana and Embong Rahardjo.

This formation also changed the earlier Java Jazz music focus from Indonesian-traditional-jazz music to rock-jazz, as it could be listened in their album titled Sabda Prana.

A few days before, I just create my first song using Music Maker jam (a free version of Music Maker 2013). It is very easy to use, I just create the chord-role and then play with timing. Melodic scale, improvement, and rhythmic style is provided by the program.
